David earned his M.D. at Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University in 1973, and his Ph.D. in psychology at Saybrook University in 2006. While a senior student, he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society. At Saybrook University his doctoral research was in Integrative Health Studies, and focused on Therapeutic Touch and Healing Touch. He was a Dissertation with Distinction nominee. David received his M.A. in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica in 1999. He received the Student of the Year award at graduation. He holds certificates of completion in two additional programs from the University of Santa Monica: Consciousness, Health, and Healing in 2000 and Soul-Centered Leadership in 2005.
David started his career in Emergency Medicine as Medical Director of a major trauma center. He was a Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Practice at Southern Illinois University Medical School and also National Faculty in Advanced Cardiac Life Support at the American Heart Association in Dallas, Texas. Board certified in Emergency Medicine, he also served on the Board of Directors and as President of the Illinois Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians. He was a Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Practice at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, visiting faculty in the wellness program at the University of Denver, and National Faculty in Advanced Cardiac Life Support for the American Heart Association. He served as Chief of Staff and as the first Medical Director of Vail Valley Medical Center in Colorado. He has extensive experience in both allopathic medicine and complementary and alternative medicine. David practiced Emergency Medicine for over 22 years, helping over 120,000 patients. He founded the Colorado Longevity Institute in Beaver Creek, CO, which specialized in preventive mind-body medicine. David’s career in emergency medicine ended as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident, and his personal healing process led him to explore a number of alternative therapies and healers. David brings his wealth of personal and professional experience to help others in healing.
David is an Intuitive Medical Doctor who has brings the best of mainstream “Western” medicine, mind-body practices, and the emerging field of spiritual psychology to his patients. His intention is to exemplify the original meanings of “doctor” and “physician.” The word “doctor” is derived from the ancient Greek for teacher, and the word “physician” has its roots in the art of healing and natural science. He also was faculty in the Counseling Psychology program, teaching classes in Drug and Alcohol addiction and recovery, Human Sexuality, and Psychopharmacology. David is also faculty in the Graduate School of Mind-Body Medicine at Saybrook University. He is also a consultant and executive coach for health care executives with David Couper Consulting.
David is also the co-director of the Freedom to Choose Project.org, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that teaches the basic emotional intelligence and life skills to men and women incarcerated, on parole, and in addiction recovery. Since 2004, he has worked with over 3,000 incarcerated men and women at Valley State Prison for Women, Central California Women's Facility, and Vally State Prison (for men). David and Bonnie have received numerous awards for this work.

One of her candidacy essays was nominated for the Outstanding Essay Award. Bonnie received her M.A. in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica in 2000. Bonnie has been a faculty member at the University of Santa Monica (USM) since 2002. She is a faculty member in both the Master's Degree program in Spiritual Psychology, and also in the post-graduate program Consciousness, Health and Healing. She is also a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist and has had a private consulting/coaching practice since 1996. Bonnie has taught conscious movement classes since 1994, focusing on assisting women in healing issues with their bodies and their creative self-expression. She also developed and taught dance, dream, and journaling workshops for Glendale Community College in Glendale, CA. She is also a knitwear designer and has had several designs published. She received numerous scholarships in Computer Science, and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Her professional background includes five years as General Manager of an electronics-manufacturing corporation. She is a consultant and executive coach for health care executives with David Couper Consulting. She has also worked as a Graphic Designer and professional artist.
